On Thursday 8th October 2026, students and staff at Mill House School will be taking part in an exciting national event as we join the National Literacy Trust and the British Council in an attempt to break a Guinness World Record™. Together, readers from across the UK and around the world will unite for a shared reading experience as part of the Take 10 to Read campaign and the National Year of Reading 2026.
At 10:00am, our students will join thousands of other readers to help set a new record for the most people reading online in a 12-hour period. As part of the event, students will enjoy a special reading session featuring acclaimed author Frank Cottrell-Boyce, author of Millions, Cosmic and The Astounding Broccoli Boy.
Students can choose to bring their own reading material, whether that is a favourite book, comic, magazine or newspaper. Alternatively, they can join their class in reading articles from the Mill House School Newspaper. Every student who takes part will contribute to this exciting world record attempt.
At Mill House School, we understand the importance of reading. Reading not only supports literacy and academic achievement but also helps to improve wellbeing, reduce stress, boost imagination and develop a lifelong love of learning. It opens doors to new experiences, broadens horizons and connects us with people and cultures from around the world.
This event is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate reading while highlighting its positive impact on our daily lives. It also supports our commitment to encouraging reading for pleasure and ensuring that every student develops the skills and confidence needed for future success.
We are incredibly proud to be involved in this global celebration of reading and look forward to playing our part in making history.
Every Reader Counts!
Read. Relax. Connect. Make History.
We can’t wait to see our students helping to show the world that reading truly has the power to bring people together.
