Reading Plus

DreamBox Reading Plus

Mill House School are pleased to announce our investment in Reading Plus, an adaptive online reading programme designed to accelerate students’ reading growth. This is an exciting addition to our reading provisions, and we look forward to seeing its impact on students’ progress. Reading Plus helps students develop the fluency skills essential for confident and proficient reading. This marks an exciting step in enhancing literacy skills and fostering a love for reading among our students. Packed with engaging texts, the programme offers personalised challenges to support students at various reading levels. It will be used in school and is also accessible from home on laptops, computers, and tablets.

What is Reading Plus?

Reading Plus is a research-based online reading development programme that enhances students’ reading fluency, stamina, and comprehension. Used in over 1,400 schools across the UK, it plays a valuable role in supporting children’s reading journeys.

How does Reading Plus work?

Following an initial assessment, Reading Plus places each student at the appropriate reading level within the programme. Students can then choose from a variety of texts across different genres and formats, including fiction, non-fiction, and informational texts, suited to their reading ability.

After reading a text, students answer ten comprehension questions, with both text selections and questions adapting as they progress. Weekly assignments include personalised instructions for students, covering:

  • Visual skills development for eye-tracking
  • Reading tasks for comprehension and fluency
  • Vocabulary exercises

Hear from Katy Clemons from Mill House School:

“We are thrilled to be investing in the Reading Plus Programme to further enhance our students’ reading and literacy development across the school. Our Year 8 cohort has been piloting the programme over the last four weeks, and we have already seen progress in reading stamina, fluency, and—perhaps most importantly—reading for pleasure. We now look forward to rolling this out to all students, staff, and parents, along with exciting competitions and rewards.”
