During March, our school proudly celebrated National Shakespeare Week, taking time to explore the lasting influence of William Shakespeare and his relevance in today’s world. As part of our English curriculum, pupils read an extract from The Last Bard by Maz Evans, using this contemporary text to examine how Shakespeare continues to inspire new works of fiction and engage modern audiences.
Shakespeare’s influence didn’t stop in English lessons. A wide range of subjects across the curriculum incorporated elements of his life, language and ideas into their teaching, helping pupils to make meaningful connections between literature, history, performance and the wider world. This whole-school approach highlighted not only Shakespeare’s enduring legacy, but also the value of creative, cross-curricular learning.
National Shakespeare Week provided a wonderful opportunity to celebrate literature, spark curiosity, and reinforce the importance of classic texts in shaping modern culture.
