Today marked the first day of a two‑day event at Mill House School celebrating World Book Day and the importance of reading for pleasure.
The day commenced with an assembly designed to inform and inspire students, highlighting the many different forms that reading can take. Following this, students engaged in a range of reading‑related activities across various subject areas. In Mathematics, they tackled riddles that required close attention to detail. In Geography, students listened to extracts from well‑known books and produced drawings based on the images they visualised. In Art and ICT, students designed their own ideal book covers, while in English they explored how Harry Potter is brought to life on stage and examined the wide variety of job roles involved in a theatrical production, all of which require strong reading skills.
Year 7 students particularly enjoyed taking part in a national book quiz alongside several football league players, achieving scores of 6/10 and 10/10. They then participated in a live question‑and‑answer session with a journalist from The Guardian.
We have been especially impressed by the enthusiasm shown by students throughout the day, and it has been wonderful to see our reading culture continuing to flourish here at Mill House School.
