This November, pupils at Mill House School are celebrating the exciting world of non-fiction through a range of reading and writing activities designed to inspire curiosity and share knowledge.
As part of Non-Fiction November, our Friday DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) sessions will focus on engaging, accessible non-fiction texts. Each week, pupils will explore short extracts on a variety of fascinating topics, helping them develop their reading skills while discovering new facts and ideas about the world around them.
Alongside our reading activities, we are launching a whole-school project: The Mill House School Book of Amazing Facts.
Every pupil has been invited to contribute at least one interesting fact about a topic or special interest of their choice. Whether their passion is animals, gaming, football, music, trains, history, films, space, technology, or another favourite subject, every contribution is welcome.
The aim of the project is simple: to celebrate the incredible range of interests, knowledge, and expertise that exists across our school community. Pupils are encouraged to share one clear, interesting, and factual statement. While some may choose to write more, a single sentence is all that is needed to make a valuable contribution.
To support the project, pupils will take part in discussions during check-in sessions and use specially designed planning templates to help organise their ideas. Staff will also support pupils in checking their facts to ensure our final collection is accurate and informative.
Once all contributions have been collected, they will be brought together to create The Mill House School Book of Amazing Facts – a unique publication showcasing the interests and knowledge of pupils from across the school.
We are looking forward to sharing the finished book with our school community and celebrating the enthusiasm, curiosity, and expertise of our pupils throughout Non-Fiction November.
Watch this space for some amazing facts!
