About our School Council

These pupils were chosen by their peers through a democratic voting process — each candidate having presented their own manifesto. This process reflects our commitment to British Values, especially democracy, individual liberty, and mutual respect — and shows clearly how students’ voices can influence real decisions.

The School Council meets half-termly to gather ideas, concerns and suggestions from across the school. Since September, their work has already led to a number of meaningful developments:

  • After surveying students, the Council introduced new lunchtime clubs — including film club, board games, and craft — and successfully advocated for a broader range of enrichment activities and educational trips.
  • Through the Council’s initiative, many students entered the nationwide “Aspire Space Adventure Competition” in October 2025 — with 17 entries showcasing imagination and enthusiasm through rockets, planets, and creative stories.
  • The Council helped coordinate a recent community-engagement visit to Bablake House, giving pupils the chance to connect with local residents through storytelling, creative workshops and conversation, helping to address social loneliness and build empathy across generations.

One of the Council’s standout achievements remains the creation of the “Merit Reward Ladder,” which celebrates positive behaviour, sustained effort, and personal growth. Pupils now look forward to end-of-term rewards and celebrations that recognise their achievements.

The Council also regularly seeks student voice on key areas of school life — including wellbeing, inclusion, and ideas to enhance our outdoor spaces. Their suggestions continue to shape a more supportive, inclusive and engaging school environment.

This work links directly to our commitment to SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development). Through active participation, students learn to express their views respectfully, consider others’ needs, and take an active role in their community. Initiatives such as our visit to Bablake House and enrichment opportunities help develop empathy, social responsibility, cultural awareness, teamwork and confidence.

Up and Coming Projects

This year, our School Council are helping to shape a number of exciting international and local projects, as well as events within school.

Recently, a member of staff travelled to Morocco with the British Council to meet our new partner school as part of the Pen Pals Project. Through this partnership, pupils from both schools will be sharing film, theatre and book reviews, giving our children the opportunity to explore different cultures and perspectives.

We are also developing a creative art project with our second international partner school, Școala Gimnazială in România. Pupils have already begun discussing ideas and will collaborate on shared artwork later in the year.

The School Council also played a key role in organising our Halloween Fancy Dress celebration, which was a huge success. Pupils have since requested more celebrations and themed events throughout the year. Staff are now working closely with the council to plan additional opportunities that bring the school community together.

In addition to these events, pupils have been consulted about local opportunities. They have expressed a strong interest in visiting a local library, and Katy will be arranging this visit for the Spring Term.

These projects reflect our pupils’ enthusiasm for connecting with others, expressing their creativity and contributing to our wider school community.

Our students say it best:

“We love our new ping pong table!”

“We get to watch some good films together”

“We go on loads more trips now.”

“We loved our reward trip to Bowling, it was AMAZING”

“I like going to the care home, I get to see my friend Joyce”

“We looked epic at Halloween”
