Our Year 10 Geography students recently visited Carding Mill Valley to undertake their physical river fieldwork investigation.
During the visit, students collected primary data from three locations along the river, measuring channel width, depth, velocity and bedload size and shape. Back in the classroom, they will analyse their findings to determine whether the river exhibits the characteristics predicted by the Bradshaw Model, developing their understanding of how river features change downstream.
The day provided a fantastic opportunity for students to apply their classroom learning in a real-world environment, develop practical geographical enquiry skills and gain first-hand experience of fieldwork techniques used by professional geographers.
We are incredibly proud of the way our students conducted themselves throughout the trip. They demonstrated enthusiasm, resilience and a mature approach to learning, and were excellent ambassadors for Mill House School. Their engagement and behaviour were praised throughout the day, making the visit both successful and enjoyable for everyone involved.
We look forward to seeing the outcomes of their analysis and the conclusions they draw from their fieldwork investigation.
