Last week, our students experienced two fantastic opportunities to engage with literature and the arts in new and inspiring ways.
On Wednesday 8 October, our Key Stage 3 students took part in a special event focused on visual storytelling. They had the chance to hear from a published graphic novelist, gaining insight into what it’s like to create and publish graphic novels. Students then joined in with a live draw-along, working step by step with the expert to bring their own ideas to life. Using the wordless graphic novel Giant as inspiration, students explored visual literacy and how images can tell powerful stories without words. We were incredibly impressed with their focus, listening skills, and the creativity they showed in their artwork.
To end the week, on Friday 10 October, we celebrated National Poetry Day throughout the school. This year’s theme was play, and students were set poetry challenges across all subjects to spark their imaginations and experiment with language in new ways. It was wonderful to see students from all year groups taking part so enthusiastically, producing thoughtful, playful and original pieces of poetry.
Both events were a great success and reflect our commitment to providing students with rich, creative learning experiences that inspire a love of language, art and storytelling. A big thank you to staff and students for making the week so memorable!
